The South Gap Hotel Barbados has modern amenities and amazing sea views, all in an excellent location. Situated right in the heart of lively St. Lawrence Gap, the South Gap Hotel is just a few steps from some of the top nightlife, restaurants, and beaches in Barbados.
When I last visited in 2023, the property had been recently renovated and rooms are modern and well-maintained. The pool area feels luxurious and stylish with a clear railing so you can see the ocean from anywhere on the pool deck, and a fun mosaic waterfall for getting the perfect vacation picture (a requirement!)
No matter where you are on the property, you’ll be able to see clear water for miles, making this an excellent hotel for a romantic getaway.
Overall, the South Gap Hotel is an affordable, comfortable, and central place to stay on your Barbados vacation.
Where is the South Gap Hotel located?
The South Gap Hotel is located in St. Lawrence Gap in the Christ Church Parish. The closest swimming beach is Dover Beach and it’s about a 5 minute walk away. You’re also about a 5 minute walk to the main road that runs along the coast, where you can catch the bus or ZR vans.
How to get from the Airport to the South Gap Hotel
The best way to get from the Barbados Airport to St. Lawrence Gap is by taxi. When you exit the airport, you’ll see a taxi stand with drivers who can take you where you need to go.
It’s important to discuss and agree on the price of the ride before leaving. The taxi ride will take about 10-15 minutes.
You can also take a public bus if you don’t have too much luggage. Look for the blue and yellow Transport Board bus labeled #27 Kirtons-Speightstown.
It passes right by the airport and stops at the beginning of St. Lawrence Gap road. Get off outside Cafe Sol and walk down the road adjacent to the beach for about 5-10 minutes. South Gap Hotel will be on your right.

The South Gap Hotel is an awesome place to stay if you want to be in the center of the action, and have a sea view without breaking the bank.
Rooms and Suites
All the rooms at the South Gap Hotel have recently been renovated. The property has 34 studios and suites and every room has a great view out to sea.
Each room has air-conditioning and a large TV, as well as a spacious bathroom and a kitchenette with a fridge.
All the furniture felt new and clean. Of course, you can’t beat waking up in the morning to a full ocean view and a breezy balcony. I spent a lot of time reading and working on that balcony.
Amenities at the South Gap Hotel
The South Gap Hotel doesn’t go overboard with the amenities. The pool area is definitely the main attraction and there’s also a little eating area and restaurant/bar next to the pool. The pool deck is elevated up over the water and there are lounge chairs and umbrellas, but there isn’t direct beach access from the property itself. (But if you walk down the road a few minutes, you can do a beach day and swim at Dover Beach.) There also isn’t a gym or spa.
If you’ve rented a car, the South Gap Hotel has its own parking lot which has a gate for safety. There is WiFi available throughout the property.
Dining at the South Gap Hotel
Tropical Mist Bar and Restaurant is located on the bottom floor of South Gap Hotel and opens out to the pool deck. They’re currently open for breakfast and lunch with tasty options like “build your own salad” and catch of the day.
No matter what you order, you’ll get to enjoy it with turquoise water sparkling in the background.
Things to do in St. Lawrence Gap, Barbados
One of the best perks of staying at the South Gap Hotel is the location. South Gap Hotel is right in the heart of St. Lawrence Gap, an area known for excellent restaurants, lively parties, and nightlife.
Take a leisurely stroll to Dover Beach or Worthing Beach to swim or snorkel in calm waters. You can do some shopping at the many boutiques and local vendor stalls, or go for a memorable dinner at Cafe Sol or Castaways. And don’t forget to grab a famous rum punch at one of the many bars along the way!
