The south coast of Barbados is the perfect choice for travelers who want to be close to fun surf spots, exciting nightlife, tasty restaurants, and gorgeous beaches. I stay on the south coast whenever I visit Barbados because I love the laid-back, welcoming atmosphere.

You can catch waves at Freights, go for a swim at Carlisle Bay, walk along the south coast boardwalk, and check out the famous Oistins Friday Night Fish Fry, all within a few ZR public transit stops. To me, the south coast feels like home.

In this guide, I’ll cover some of the best south coast Barbados hotels and resorts to help you plan a fantastic stay.

My Top 4 Places To Stay on the South Coast of Barbados

Like I mentioned above, I’m a big fan of staying on the south coast. If I were to book a trip right now, these would be my top four picks.

South Gap Hotel: This hotel is super centrally located in St. Lawrence Gap and you can’t beat the outdoor pool deck. All the rooms are updated with a kitchenette and ocean-facing balcony. I’d book this if I wanted to be in the center of the action.

Little Arches Boutique Hotel: Little Arches is a charming little adults-only hotel in a prime location. It’s an easy walking distance to Freights Bay (surfing), Miami Beach (swimming), and the Oistins Fish Fry (eating). I’d book this if I wanted a romantic, low-key getaway.

Beach View Cottage: A classic Bajan beach house just steps from soft white sand beaches. I’d book this beach house for a longer stay or if I was traveling with family. Imagine waking up every morning and drinking coffee on veranda while watching the sunrise over the ocean!

The Crane Resort: The Crane is a great choice for relaxation and getting away from it all. It’s a bit remote compared to the other options on this list, so I would probably book the Crane for the first 2-3 nights of my vacation to unwind and chill by the pool, then move to a different hotel in Oistins, Maxwell, St. Lawrence Gap, or Worthing for the rest of my trip.

That said, there are so many amazing south coast Barbados hotels to choose from. You can’t go wrong with any of these 16 resorts, hotels, and apartments, so let’s dive in.

South Gap Hotel is one of my favorite hotels in Barbados and it’s located right on the water in the heart of St. Lawrence Gap. All rooms have a modern feel with incredible sea views, balconies, and kitchenettes. The highlight of South Gap Hotel is definitely the pool deck where you can relax in a sun lounger, go for a dip, and watch the waves. The Crane Resort | Book Now

The Crane Resort is a beautiful historic resort located in St. Philip overlooking Crane Beach. There are several elaborate pools, soaring palm trees, and six onsite restaurants. You’ll also get easy access to amenities at Crane Beach, a famous pink-sand beach on the southern coast of Barbados. The rooms are giant and all come with a jacuzzi tub and kitchenette. There are also suites with multiple bedrooms, full kitchens, private pools, and plunge pools.

One thing to keep in mind is that The Crane is a bit more remote than the other accommodation options on this list. I recommend renting a car if you want to travel around and do some sight seeing. In the past, we booked The Crane for the first few days of our trip to unwind, then we moved to a different spot closer to town so we’d have easier access to restaurants, bars, groceries, and different beaches. That said, The Crane is an excellent place to get away from it all and you’ll have everything you need on the property if you just want to relax with incredible sea views.

Raddison Aquatica Barbados | Book Now

If you love the beach, it’s hard to beat the location of the Raddison Aquatica Barbados. While the hotel itself is a bit older, it sits in an ideal location between Pebbles Beach (one of my all-time favorites) and Carlisle Bay. Carlisle Bay the ideal choice for spending a day sunbathing, swimming with sea turtles, or snorkeling since there are several shipwrecks and the water is so clear that you can see them in detail. Make sure to book a sea-view room so you can see the racehorses going for their morning swim at Pebbles Beach!

We stayed at the Red Door Condos (or Vale View Residences) on our most recent trip to Barbados and it was wonderful. It’s a great little apartment if you want a kitchen and some space to spread out, and we thought it was a good value for the price.

The WiFi was solid and the air-conditioning worked well in the bedrooms. We had a great view of the turquoise waters from the front patio and the apartment was just a short walk down to Oistins. (But fair warning, this apartment is dangerously close to delicious food at the Oistins Fish Fry, Cafe Luna, and Surfers Cafe. You might never want to leave!)
